I rarely post content on Tumblr that isn’t my own but I noticed that there are photographers on Tumblr who inspire me but who don’t seem to be as well known as they should be. So here are three of my role models who I highly recommend you take the time to look at:
1) Paige Nelson (Top Left): I have never been brave (attractive) enough to do self-portraits but I am fascinated by it as obviously the subject is the same person so it seems to be about costume and setting. The most creative self-portraiture work I have seen on Tumblr is by Paige. She somehow makes pictures that are striking but not overdone which is a hard balance to achieve.
2) Jesica Gomez (Top Right): I’ve been following Jesica for quite a while now and I am constantly in awe of her portraiture work. This is an area I want to move towards myself and Jesica’s work will be one of those that informs me when I take those first steps. Her images are bold because they are simple and sensual.
3) Julia Franke (Bottom): I keep re-writing this description because I cannot find the words to articulate exactly the impact Julia’s work has on me. Julia is able to capture a world that I don’t see when I’m passing it by so her photography is important to me as it allows me to see the world in a way that I otherwise couldn’t. Where I connect with Julia’s images is through a narrative that is often present, featuring a subject within each photograph that seems lonely and detached.
I want to thank Paige, Jesica and Julia for allowing me to promote their work on my Tumblr and for everything they have taught me.
